Summary
In Opening the Scriptures: Expository Preaching in the Lutheran Tradition, Dr. Peter enters the church's longstanding conversation on expository preaching. He offers readers a method for expository preaching, and captures the art of the expository style. In this book, Dr. Peter begins by making a place for the expository sermon in the Lutheran tradition. He demonstrates how preachers engage in a close reading of the scriptural text not only in preparing the sermon but in preaching it as well. Then, he offers readrs a detailed examination of four components for the expository sermon: expositing the text, proclaiming law and gospel, evoking the imagination, and connecting with the hearers. Finally, his sample sermons provide examples of such preaching in action. --Back covr.
